Parenting basics

Decision-making authority and guardianship are terms used to refer to who has Decision-making rights, the ability to sign certain consent forms, and what rights to information parents or other third parties are allowed in relation to children. This used to be referred to as legal custody.

Parenting time refers to how time with a child is allocated.

The only test when determining decision-making or parenting time is what is in the Best Interests of the child.

There are additional factors to consider in relation to Relocation, which is when a parent seeks to move with a child to a different province or country.
