Termination Notice

Emily (Calgary)

1. I received a termination notice that does not meet the clear 14-day requirement (issued on 4th, date of termination specified is 18th). Is this document still effective?

2. The reason was non-payment of rental, but the amount specified an additional amount which does not make sense and was not discussed prior. Am I able to object this notice?

3. If the notice is valid, and if I do not vacate the premise on the specified day, what could happen? Can the landlord legally evict me on that day?

Thank you for your time in advance.

I'd have to research the answer to your questions. If you contact one of the lawyers in our directory they may be able to help: https://albertalegal.org/index.php

You may be able to file a complaint through the Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Service (RTDRS). There's information about RTDRS here: https://www.alberta.ca/residential-tenancy-dispute-resolution-service.aspx
