Parental Alienation

Nadine (Edmonton)

Is parental alienation recognized in the courts? Is it easy to prove and how do you start the process ?

Hi Nadine,

The current terminology is "resist/refuse dynamics" and is better addressed in the realm of psychology than the courts. Even if you take legal action, the likely result in most cases will be "PN7 Order" sending the family to a psychologist for some form of intervention. "PN7" refers to the Alberta Courts Family Practice Note 7 which lists off a number of different types of investigative and therapeutic interventions generally performed by a psychologist or other professional who then renders a report to the court. Please contact a lawyer to discuss the options appropriate for your specific case in a private and confidential setting.
